Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State who was disqualified by the screening committee of his former party APC, due to the unending conflict between him and his former godfather Adams Oshiomole who allegedly planned the process of his disqualification, has announced his defection to the People's Democratic Party, even though his former party the APC has nullified his disqualification.
The Governor took to his official Twitter page this afternoon to declare his defection to PDP, he said, "I have officially joined the @OfficialPDPNig to advance my ambition to seek re-election as Governor of Edo State. I, as always, remain committed to engendering good governance and sustainable development of our dear state."
Confirming the statement, the people's Democratic Party (PDP) also took their page to release an official statement saying, His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki has defected to their great Party, the declaration was made this afternoon at the party's state Secretariat in Benin where he was officially welcomed to the party.
The all progressives congress (APC) has come out to say the decision by Governor Godwin Obaseki to defect to the opposition party PDP didn't come as a surprising development. According to the Guardian News the spoken person of the APC, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu gave the reaction while addressing newsmen in Abuja. "It has not come to us as a surprise. we knew he had defected long ago because he resigned his membership of the party which we have accepted, We don't know whether what he has just done now is news any longer" He said.
